Comfort wins by making the easy choice feel harmless. But those small choices add up fast.

I completely agree. Choosing between easy and difficult doesn’t always feel like choosing between good and bad, sometimes it even feels like the opposite. If you think about it, when you have time, procrastination feels completely okay, and “I have time“ sounds completely legit.

Thanks for giving my post a read!

I agree we are “wired” to take the path of least resistance. I have struggled with this myself. This is a great article, I really enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for you reading it Joanna! Did you learn something new from it by any chance?

The part that stayed with me is the losing trust in your own word quietly, one broken promise at a time. Most people name that as laziness and move on. You named it more accurately: it's evidence accumulating against yourself which is really great. The reframe from "make bigger promises" to "keep smaller ones" is simple but it's the kind of simple that takes a while to actually see.🌟

Good piece Zoli. So glad to have you back in action.🔥Keenly looking forward to where this goes.🙌

Pleasure is all mine. Just curious, the 3 weeks you ran this, was there a specific moment when you realised the cold shower wasn't the hard part anymore, and something else had quietly become the real negotiation?

I wouldn't say so. I'm not sure when did I realize that the negotiation is the important thing, not the shower or the suffering itself. When I started testing the system itself I already approached it this way, but there definitely was a moment earlier on when it clicked. What negotiations do you battle with that are difficult to win?

Honestly, the hardest ones for me are the ones that don't feel like negotiations at all. Starting to write is the big one. There's no loud resistance, no obvious excuse, just a quiet pull toward something easier. Check the phone, make chai, do literally anything else. By the time I notice it, I've already lost twenty minutes. The negotiation happened before I even showed up.

That's really relatable. Sometimes I don't feel this strong resistance like for example with cold showers (where I can literally hear my mind telling me to STOP I don't know if you felt anything like that before). Rather I just lean toward the easy stuff.

I can feel you buddy. Making hard choices is not always rewarding in the way we expect. And leaning towards easy stuff can simply boost our confidence as well.
